Everyone's Favorite Fish Taco Sauce

jar of fish taco sauce

This fish taco sauce is THE best taco sauce out there. It's a creamy mix made of sour cream, mayo, lime, jalapeño, hot sauce, and a few spices. It has just enough kick, and you can make it in five minutes or less!

How to Make Fish Taco Sauce

This fish taco sauce recipe is super easy to make. All you need to do is toss the ingredients into a blender! Blend together the sour cream, mayonnaise, lime juice, garlic, Cholula, jalapeño, smoked paprika, and salt until smooth. Make sure to deseed the jalapeño first, including the white membrane, or the sauce will turn out extremely spicy! (If you like that kind of thing, feel free to leave the seeds in.)

Then refrigerate the sauce until serving. This sauce should stay good in the refrigerator for several days.

Ingredient Substitutions

This recipe only has a handful of ingredients, so I wouldn't recommend changing many of them--it will alter the flavor of the sauce. However, here are a few possible substitutions if necessary:

  • Olive oil mayonnaise: Feel free to switch this out for regular mayonnaise--I just prefer the olive oil version because it's a little bit healthier.
  • Lime juice: If you don't have lime juice, fresh lemon juice is fine, but it will alter the flavor slightly.
  • Minced garlic: Chopped fresh garlic is a great alternative--I just use minced garlic for convenience.
  • Cholula: Another hot sauce would work fine here, like Tapatio.
  • Smoked Paprika: Regular paprika can be substituted in its place.
